Individual Therapy

During the initial appointments, we will participate in an assessment process that looks at all areas of your life and functioning.  We will take a comprehensive look at behaviors at home, school, and in the community, as well as medical and family histories.  This thorough evaluation is important because it helps me to identify any psychological disorders, substance abuse disorders, or risk behaviors that need to be addressed in treatment.  It allows us to look at core issues and truly understand your unique personal history.  Using this information, we develop an individualized treatment plan that takes into account your strengths and the factors that motivate you to change.

In individual therapy, we will explore these issues and find ways to resolve them.  I will assist you in increasing your awareness of the effects of risky behavior and empower you to make changes in your behavior in order to live a healthier lifestyle.  I will assist you in learning communication skills, emotional coping skills to help manage intense feelings, and organizational skills.  I will also assist you in establishing a positive self-regard and increasing self-esteem.
